Their love story began in the halls of a small-town high school, as many do. Cameron was a senior and Megan a junior when their relationship took flight after a lighthearted bet. After four months of dating, countless roses, and one homecoming dance, they made it official – but a short time later, he graduated high school and left for the Marine Corps.
Fast forward five years and their local love story had become an enduring long-distance romance. Between his rigorous training schedule and her busy life as a college student and volleyball player, they reunited every three months with their hearts firmly planted on the future. This faraway vision kept them going, and the long periods of separation due to military life solidified their bond instead of tearing it apart. They knew the next chapter of their lives would allow them to be together at last.
“During my junior year of college, Cameron was deployed to Iraq for 7 months. The separation and lack of communication during this time was one of the hardest things we had to overcome as a couple,” says Megan. But there was something magical in the works! “Little did I know he had been planning the proposal during that time!”
During his post-deployment leave, Cameron planned what ended up being a whirlwind proposal. He landed in Ohio on a Saturday after 14 hours of travel and went straight to dinner with her parents. By Thursday, he had ordered and received the ring, and gotten everything ready for the proposal.
That night, they had dinner plans, and as she got ready, Megan’s best friend Kendra handed her a card with a riddle inside. Thus began a two-hour scavenger hunt leading Megan to all of the special places that marked milestones or firsts in their relationship. The final clue led her to a gazebo at the park where they had taken their first homecoming photos so many years before. As she walked up a rose petal-lined ramp, she noticed a candlelit heart with a note attached. Megan read the words “Say yes!” aloud as Cameron surprised her on one knee in his Marine Corps dress blues. To add even more magic to the moment, both of their families were nearby, cheering as she said yes.
The ring was a thrilling yet unexpected surprise for Megan. She had fallen in love with this stunning design from our Pirouetta collection while searching for unique round halo engagement rings online. She shared it with her best friends and mom, but never expected her dream ring to become reality. Cameron tracked down the ring at Harry Merrill & Son in Philadelphia, finalized the details, and had it delivered overnight.
“What I love about my Kirk Kara ring is the unique design. I love how the halo continues by wrapping around the band and that all the stones are lined with more intricate details. The etching marks along the side also make it one of a kind and that much more beautiful,” Megan says. “Down on one knee, I could hardly believe that was really my ring!”
The high school sweethearts tied the knot in a beautiful, intimate outdoor ceremony surrounded by family and friends in May. Her father sang and played an acoustic version of “Smile” by Uncle Kracker for their first dance – which happened to be the first song they slow danced to at their homecoming dance in 2011. Things truly came full circle for them in that beautiful moment. We wish this lovely #kirkkaracouple a lifetime of smiles and togetherness!
